Goodreads Lists – A Great Writer’s Tool for Finding Comps

While Google is great, its specialty isn’t “book search,” per se. So, I’ve found it’s also worth a poke around the Goodreads Listopia feature when searching for possible comps–or reading lists of any sort (naturally).

Here are a few robust, and very specific, lists I recently spotted there:

Wordless Picture Books

Picture Books That Break the “Fourth Wall”

Caldecott Medal Winners

Animal Group Nouns in Picture Books

Picture Books About Maps

Picture Books About Dance

Children’s Books That Break Gender Stereotypes

Picture Books About the Library

And there are hundreds more. To try out the list search for yourself, just visit https://www.goodreads.com/list and then type in the sort of list you are looking for!

And, if it turns out there’s not one yet, maybe start one of your own! Readers (and writers) will thank you. 🙂
